Project STAR Hosts Successful 2-Day Teacher Empowerment Programme

Project STAR recently conducted an intensive two-day Teacher Empowerment Programme on April 28th and April 29th, 2025, which focused on enhancing teaching methodologies and assessment strategies. The programme, which attracted educators from across the region, provided participants with practical skills to implement active learning techniques and effective assessment methods in their classrooms.
Day 1: Effective Active Learning Lesson Planning
The first day focused on the crucial skill of intentional lesson planning with an emphasis on active learning methodologies. Facilitators guided participants through:
- The importance of purposeful lesson planning and its impact on student engagement
- Essential components that make up an effective active learning lesson plan
- Practical steps for developing lesson plans that promote student participation and deep learning
“The workshop transformed my understanding of lesson planning,” shared one participant. “I now see how intentional planning can dramatically improve student engagement and learning outcomes.”
Day 2: Mastering Formative Assessment
The second day focused on formative assessment strategies, providing teachers with tools to continuously monitor and improve student learning. Key topics included:
- Defining formative assessment and its role in the teaching-learning process
- Benefits of implementing regular formative assessment in classroom instruction
- Distinguished characteristics between formative and summative assessment approaches
- Various formative assessment techniques that can be readily implemented
- Practical applications of formative assessment strategies in different classroom scenarios
Participants engaged in hands-on activities, practising different assessment methods and discussing implementation strategies tailored to their specific teaching contexts.
